Dolphin Divers of Richmond (BDD)
History The Black Dolphin Diver club was the brain child of two divers (Herman Randolph and Shane Barge) who were put in touch with each other through the National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS). They met to determine the viability of starting a club. The first club meeting was held on September 19, 2004 and comprised of Shane Barge, Roswell Friend, Simeon Newbold and Herman Randolph, at Shane Barges home. The name BLACK DOLPHIN DIVERS was inspired by a Jazz composition entitled "On Green Dolphin Street". At the invitation of Simeon Newbold, Sr. future meetings of the developing Club took place at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church. The club quickly expanded to include Robin Edwards, Roswell Friend, Clifton Hicks, Darlette Meekins, Simeon Newbold, Sr., Geoff Pettygrobe, and Renee' Whittingham. The Richmond Black Dolphin Divers Club Bylaws were officially submitted to NABS in January 2006 for Charter membership into the Northeastern Region. Officers during this time were Herman Randolph, President; Shane Barge, Vice President; Clifton Hicks, Secretary and Simeon Newbold, Sr., Treasurer. We have currently added two additional members, Portia Rawles and Steve Woodard. Our membership was accepted in February 2006 and the Richmond Black Dolphin Divers is currently an affiliate club of NABS. The Richmond Black Dolphin Divers were acknowledged and honored as the newest Dive Club at the 16th Annual NABS Summit in Curacao (November 8-12, 2006). We currently have twelve certified members. BDD is a member of the Northeastern Region of the National Association of Black Scuba Divers. The clubs of the Northeastern Region follows: Massachusetts, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C. and Virginia. Our Regional Representative: Mr. Henry Rorie
